Technical Overview
RiskMan.Net was designed from the "ground up" to take advantage of the power of web-based technologies. In this way, RiskMan.Net provides:
Low Cost of Deployment
RiskMan.Net is deployed to a single a central web server for hosting the presentation level of the application, and a single SQL Server for hosting the database. No client level installations are required.
Low Cost of Infrastructure
Infrastructure requirements are kept to a minimum by maintaining a small data "footprint" for each incident report, keeping database and bandwidth utilisation down to modest levels.
Scalability
RiskMan.Net is based on the latest Microsoft Web Technology – Microsoft.Net. With a proven architecture, this provides an excellent platform for incident management across a wide-area network for large geographically spread organisations.
RiskMan.Net can be accessed simultaneously by hundreds of users, limited only by the size of the physical servers used to host the database and the application.
Application Responsiveness
Simple HTML delivery of screens, with minimal use of graphics, and server-based location of business/storage logic, means RiskMan.Net works effectively over low speed dial-up links.
Minimal Training Requirements
By adopting a simple interface, based on industry standard HTML, and through intelligent use of user permissions, the majority of system users require little formal training to lodge an incident report.
Performance
RiskMan.Net is a pure web application and as such performance is governed by the restrictions typical to that environment.
- Network infrastructure (inter-site bandwidth)
- Server capacity and performance
Combined with browser-side JavaScript, RiskMan.Net has completely encapsulated the incident report and ongoing management process within the web browser.
By utilising standard industry protocols (HTTP, HTML, XML) and platforms (MS SQL Server, MS IIS, ASP.Net), RiskMan.Net provides a solution that is technically robust and scalable.
RiskMan.Net is extensible via standard customisation facilities built into the application interface, such as simple drop down list maintenance screens and Incident Report entry screen tailoring for individuals or user groups.
Over and above the standard customisation features, the use of Microsoft .Net technologies for rapid application development means RiskMan.Net can be quickly enhanced to incorporate changing organisational requirements, or to integrate new technologies for enhanced service delivery, such as streaming sound or video for training or departmental policy delivery.
